District Cub Camp 2017

Our District Cubs rounded off a very busy Summer of District events by having their District Cub Camp at Scarisbrick Hall Guide Campsite on the weekend of 21 – 23rd July. Over 100 Cubs attended from 7 of our Cub Packs. The weather was very mixed. It was either blisteringly hot or throwing it down, but none of that stopped us having loads of fun.

Lord Lieutenant's Celebration

Well done to Lydia and Issy from1st Southport Lockhart Troop who represented Merseyside County Scouts at the Lord Lieutenant' s Celebration Service at Liverpool Cathedral last weekend. Lydia carried the Merseyside Scouts County Flag whilst Issy did one of the readings. They are pictured with our new County Commissioner Peter Oliver.

District Chief Scout Expedition Challenge

Last weekend the 1st Shackleton, 2nd,14th and 58th Scout Troops took part in a joint Expedition camp for part of one of their Chief Scout Gold challenges.
They hiked from Burscough to Tawd vale on the Friday, where they camped and then spent 4 and half hours hiking around Parbold on the Saturday.

1st lockharts, 19th, 55th and 61st Scout Troops took part in our District Scout Hike last weekend. They all met up at Freshfield station ( where it was a bit damp) and arrived in Ainsdale village in the glorious sunshine. Well done everyone.

District Cub Water Fun Day

Southport District Cubs held their annual Water Fun Day on Sunday 9th July. Overall 180 Cubs attended, the largest number yet for this type of event, split over a Morning and Afternoon session having fun on Kayaks, Sailing, Bell Boating, Barrel Racing and pretending to be Vikings on a Viking Long Boat. The Long Boat was a special addition for this year's event. Each Pack had painted a shield that could be used on the side of the Long Boat. The Long Boat itself was a converted Dragon boat, with a new Dragon head and mast & sail.

61st Cubs win District Cub Sports Day 2017

On Friday evening, 30th June, Southport District Cubs held their Annual Sports Day at Larkfield Primary School.
We were really lucky with the weather, as the school itself had earlier cancelled their own Sports day, but the rain held off and everyone that attended enjoyed a fun filled evening either watching or taking part.
The Track events included 80m sprint races (for the various age Groups), 3 legged, obstacle, Sack and Egg & Spoon races and a final Relay race with teams of 6 taking part.

1st Southport Lockhart Troop 2nd in Regional Lord Derby Competition

Huge Congratulations to 1st Lockhart Troop who managed a fantastic joint Second place in the Regional Lord Derby Competition which took place at Tatton Park on Saturday 11th June. They were representing Southport District and Merseyside County Scouts having won these earlier rounds of the competition. We are really proud of what you have achieved! Well done!

58th & 61st Cubs win District Dragonboating 2017

We held our District Cub Dragonboating Competition on Friday 9th June and were blessed with excellent weather again. It was our largest Competition yet with 160 Cubs split into 9 teams, who had 2 races each, with the fastest combined race time winning. Congratulations go to the combined team of the 58th Cub Pack and 61st Cubs for winning overall, to the 61st A team for coming 2nd and to 1st Tiger Cubs for coming 3rd.

Shelterbox 2017

Well done to the various Southport District Cub & Scout teams who entered this year's Shelter box Scavenger Hunt in Liverpool, along with 500 other Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from around the North West Region.
The teams walked around Liverpool to various checkpoints where they were given challenges to do. An enjoyable day had by all for a very worthy cause.
