Merseyside Scouts awarded the Freedom of the City

Well done to Clare (19th Cubs), Genevieve (Griffin Explorer Unit), Victoria (Spearhead Explorers) and Matt (40th Scout Troop) who represented our District at last night's Celebrations at Liverpool Town Hall, where Merseyside Scouts, Girl Guides and Boys Brigade were awarded the Freedom of the City!

1st Southport Panther Cubs win District Swimming Gala 2017

Huge Congratulations to 1st Southport Panther Pack who won this year's District Swimming Gala at Formby Pool on the 11th November. Ten of our Cub packs entered, competing in Straight, Relay and Fun races. Panthers also did the double by winning the separate Relay Cup as well, which is 100 years old this year, as the first time it was presented was in 1917 during the First World War. Well done also to the 62nd and 1st Tigers who came 2nd and 3rd overall.

'Tawd 25 in 24' Event 2017

Well done to the 62nd and 1st Lockhart Scout Troops for taking part in the first ever County 'Tawd 25' event. Scout Troops from around Merseyside spent 25 hours from 10am on Saturday 28th October to 10am on the Sunday, taking part in a whole host of activities , including archery, kayaking, axe throwing, firelighting, discos etc. (25 hours with the clocks going back). The activities continued for the whole of this time and it was up to the Scouts whether they wanted to sleep or not. Many thanks to the Merseyside Scout team who organised this for our Scouts to enjoy!

Chariot Race 2017

'Well Done' to 1st Southport Lockhart Troop who achieved a fantastic 8th place out of the 49 teams that entered the Chariot race Competition at Bispham Hall recently! In this competition the team had to race their chariot and rider around a very muddy obstacle course that takes around 10 to 15 mins. The fastest teams on the Saturday went through to do another run on the Sunday morning, which determined the final placings.

JOTI / JOTA 2017

It was the annual 'Jamboree on the Internet' ( JOTI) and ' Jamboree on the Air' (JOTA) this weekend where various Scouting Groups contact each other around the world.
1st Southport Lockharts had a sleepover so they could speak to other Scouts in different time zones. Lots of countries were contacted over the internet, the picture showing other Scouts in Chile. The 48th Scout Troop used both the Internet and HF radio. With the radio's alone they managed to contact Italy, Germany and the USA! A fun time had by all

1st Southport Tiger Pack win the District Cub Indoor Competition 2017

On Wednesday night, 18th October, it was the Cubs Annual District Indoor Competition at Waterside Lodge. We vary the theme of this competition each year and for the first time we held a fun Challenge night. As well as the fun element the challenges also included some scouting skills and the Packs were pre-warned that each team member would need to know how to tie a reef knot and have some knowledge of Scouting history.

Beavan Challenge 2017

Well done to the 48th Southport Scout Troop that achieved a fantastic 8th Place in this weekend's Beavan Challenge at Tawd Vale. 40 teams of Scouts and Explorers took on Canoeing (along a canal), Hiking, Archery, Shooting, First aid and more! The challenge will be back next year on the last weekend of September!

County Youth Summit 2017

On Saturday 8th July both Beaver Colonies from the 1st Southport and 1st Lockhart Scout Troop attended Merseyside County's first ever Youth Summit in Liverpool. The Scouts were given the chance to give their views on scouting, take part in fun experiments, watch videos and have fun dancing. Then went home with some special gifts, including a scout fidget spinner. A good day was had by all.
