Opportunity for Scouts to help at the British Triathlon Championships

Scouts have been asked to help volunteer as support crew at the 2013 British Triathlon Championships which are being held in Liverpool’s Queens Wharf, on Saturday 13th July. This event is the final qualifying competition for the 2013 World Triathlon Series Grand Final, which this year is being held in Hyde Park, London.

District Cub Dragonboat Racing Competition 2013

Southport's Cub Packs enjoyed some Dragonboat racing tonight on the Marine Lake. 140 Cubs took part, watched by their parents, forming 9 teams with 20 in each boat.Each team took part in two races with their combined times deciding who won overall. Congratulations to Team 8 who came 1st , a combination of the 58th & 61st Cub Packs, Team 4 who came 2nd, a combination of the 19th & 1st Panther Cub Pack and to Team 7 , the 2nd Southport, who came 3rd.

Southport Scouts meet the Chief Scout and break some World records!

Sunday, 12th May, was Merseyside County’s second part of their ‘Big Adventure’ Weekend which included a visit from Bear Grylls, our Chief Scout. This time The 19th Cub Pack, 48th Scout Troop, 55th Scout Troop and the 1st Southport Beavers, Panther Cub Pack and Lockhart Scout Troop joined over 1250 others at Liverpool’s Festival Gardens to take part in a couple of World Record attempts.

Bear Gryll's meets our Cubs and Beavers at Knowsley Safari Park

On Saturday 11th May the 1st Southport Beavers and the 19th, 48th, 62nd and 1st Southport (Panther) Cub Packs attended the County ‘Big Adventure’ trip to Knowsley Safari Park to meet our Chief Scout , Bear Grylls.
Southport District were picked up by a coach and taken to the Park where they spent the rest of the day together, led round the various activities by our District’s Network Co-ordinator , Andrew Tinsley, who was one of the many County volunteers organising this special weekend.

St.George's Day

Despite the wet, cold, weather Southport District enjoyed a large turnout for this years St.George's Day Parade and Church Service. Many congratulations go to the following who were presented with awards at the end of the day. For 'Troop of the Year' , in first place 1st Southport Lockhart's, in second the 48th Southport and in third the 19th Southport. For 'Pack of the Year', in first place the 48th Southport, in second the 19th Southport and in third the 1st Southport 'Panthers'.

Scouts Go White Water Kayaking

Some of Southport District's Kayak Instructor's braved the cold and took some Scouts to Burrs Country Park for their first taste of White Water Kayaking today. As well as tackling the 5 metre high weir (pictured) the Scouts learnt skills such as ferry gliding, breaking out etc whilst playing in a few of the rapids. Lots of confidence gained by everyone.

Kate Middleton braved the elements to join some Scouts and Adult Volunteers at Great Tower Campsite (Lake District) yesterday. She is an Occasional Helper with her local Scout Group and sometimes joins them to help run their Cub Pack. District Beaver Trip to Martin Mere

On a cold Mothering Sunday (yes I fouled up with the date) 41 Beavers from 4 colonies enjoyed a day out at Martin Mere taking part in a number of activities and affording those who haven’t already gained it, the opportunity to complete part of their Hikes Away Badge.

They were met by staff from Martin Mere and for the first hour they were split into two groups for two half hour sessions, one group playing games based on Wetland Creatures and the other group being given a talk on the Beaver Animal and then swapping over.
