48th Cub Pack Win District Indoor Competition

Congratulations to the 48th Cub Pack who came first place in this years Indoor Competition. They were closely followed by the 2nd and 55th Cub Packs who came joint second.
The competition is skills based and this year took the form of a quiz in which the cubs were tested on their Scouting & General knowledge as well as there being a practical round which included tieing a Reef knot etc

48th Scout Troop win County Cooking Competition

Congratulations to Southport's 48th Scout Troop who won the County Cooking Competition last weekend.
They beat teams from around Merseyside who had each qualified for the competition by competing in their own District versions of the event.
Congratulations also to the 1st Southport Lockhart Scout Troop who were also representing Southport and came in second place.
Well done to everybody.

New Cub Pack Formed in Ainsdale

Due to large numbers on their waiting lists a new Cub Pack has been formed at the 1st Southport (Ainsdale) Scout Group and they held there first meeting tonight, bringing the total No. of Packs in the District to ten. As there are now two Cub Packs in the same Group they will be called the 1st Southport 'Tiger' Pack and the 1st Southport 'Panther' Pack.(The new Monday night Cubs being the Tiger Pack). There are 12 Cubs in the Pack with more due to join in the next few months.

District Scout Cooking Competition

Southport District held their Scout Cooking Competition at Tawd Vale Campsite yesterday. Congratulations to the 1st Southport Lockhart Troop whose teams came 1st and 2nd. They were closely followed by the 48th Scouts in 3rd place and the 2nd (Kew Woods) Scout Troop who came in fourth. The winning teams will now go on to represent Southport in the County Cooking Competition in a few weeks time. Well done everyone.

Try some ‘wild’ camping at Southport District's HQ

In the article below it mentions the National Citizens Service at Waterside Lodge. After their residential week at Waterside Lodge they had to plan and complete a community project and because they had enjoyed the week with us so much they wanted to help Waterside as part of the project. We set them the task of clearing the campsite on the island and making it useable. They got stuck in and completed the task brilliantly. Clearing a large area, cutting back the access path so you can actually get to the site and re-concreting the flag pole.

National Citizen Service at Waterside Lodge

Waterside Lodge (our District HQ) recently put in a successful bid to host twenty four 16 year olds for a residential week 16th to 20th July. These young people were taking part in a 4 week programme as part of the National Citizens Service, a Government backed scheme run in our area by the Sefton Volunteer Service. We were week two, they had already completed a residential at CHET, Crosby Hall Educational Trust. After the week residential with us they plan and complete a community project. They work in cohorts of 12. We actually hosted 2 groups of 9.

1st Southport Cubs Win Sports Day for 4th year in a row!

On Saturday 14th July Southport Cub Packs took part in the annual District Sports Day, which consisted of straight running races to the more fun events such as three legged, sack and backwards running races to field events such as throwing Cricket Balls etc. Huge congratulations to the 1st Southport for winning the overall competition for the 4th year in row, closely followed by the 19th Cub Pack and then the 48th in 3rd Place. A separate trophy was competed for in the 6 man relay race which the 19th and 1st Southport will be sharing this year as it was a dead heat!

District Cub Water Fun Day

Southport Cub packs recently spent a warm sunny day at Waterside Lodge enjoying their annual District Water Fun day. Because of the large numbers taking part they attended either a morning or afternoon session experiencing, Kayaking, Kata Canoes, Bell Boating and Sailing. Each session ended with all the various craft taking part in a massive water battle with the cubs armed to the teeth with Supersoakers.

Southport Scouts 1st & 2nd at County Camping Competition

Congratulations to the 48th Southport Scout Troop who came 1st place in this weekend's County Camping Competition at Tawd Vale and to the 1st Southport Lockhart Troop who came in 2 points behind them to clinch 2nd place.
Both teams were competing against other Troops from around Merseyside, who were in the County Competition because they had won their District versions of the event.
The troops were judged on their Camping skills which included preparing and cooking a meal (based on a theme) for the judges. Well Done to everyone!
