Southport Scouts enjoy a Fun Weekend at the Great Escape

Various Southport Scout Troops have just returned from a fun and challenging weekend at The County 'Great Escape' Competition at Tawd Vale.
Teams of 6 had to find their way round the site and compete in various physical and mental challenge bases set up for them. They were awarded points for teamwork and the speed at which they completed each challenge.....a few got wet.....For photos and results please go to Merseyside County's Website.

Southport District 1st & 2nd at County Lord Derby Competition!

Huge Congratulations to the 1st Southport Lockhart 'A' Team who beat off the competition to Win the County Lord Derby Competition this weekend, closely followed by the 48th Scout Troop who came Second. Both teams had earned their place to compete in the County Competition after taking part in our District version a few weeks ago. They competed against 18 other Teams from Merseyside County in a series of Scouting skill challenges at Tawd Vale Campsite. For photos head over to the Photo Gallery on Merseyside County Website.

19th Cub Pack Win District Outdoor Competition

Congratulations to the 19th Cub Scout Pack who won the District 'Outdoor' Competition this weekend. The teams of 6 had to build and light their own fires, prepare their own Mince Stew Main Course and Baked Apple pudding and cook these in foil directly on the fires.
The day was very enjoyable (and Sunny) and most of the Cubs ate their meals for lunch. Well done to the 62nd and 48th Cubs Packs who came joint second.

Beavers Complete Hikes Away Badge and Meet Norman Knights

91 Beavers, from Southport District, recently enjoyed a day at Tawd Vale completing their Hikes Away Badge, completing challenges, meeting Norman Knights and making their own shields etc.

They were given the opportunity to walk around Tawd and challenged to look for trees that were chopped down, smooth, rough, mossy and so wide that they couldn’t put their arms around. They also completed a treasure hunt looking for things such as a feather, something that smelt nice and something man made. These are just a sample of some of the challenges given to the beavers.

1st Southport Lockhart Troop win Lord Derby Competition

Southport District Scout Troops took part in the Annual Lord Derby Competition today at the Marine Lake. The teams of 6 had to complete various skill / fun based challenges which included Map reading, Word Search Orienteering, a Scout quiz version of 'The Million Pound Drop', amongst others. Congratulations go to the 1st Southport Lockhart 'A' team which won overall, 2nd place went to the 48th Scout Troop and 3rd Place to 1st Southport Lockhart 'B' team.

Equinox Challenge Results

Teams from 1st Southport Lockhart Scout Troop, 1st Southport Shackleton and 48th Southport enjoyed a fantastic day competing at The Equinox Challenge last weekend. This Annual Competition is based in Delamere Forest and is described as 'the ultimate test of skill, strategy and navigation of Scouts whilst they are being hunted down by a force of Explorer and Network Scouts who want to take lives and points away from them!' Out of the 30 teams that took part, from various Districts, 1st Southport Lockhart's Team A came a very creditable 5th Place.

District Water Night Dates Released

The 2012 Southport District Scouts Water Nights programme starts on Wednesday 18th April 2012 at Waterside Lodge (Marine Lake) and runs until Wednesday 12th September 2012. (22 Dates are listed below for your diary)
These evenings of Sailing, Kayaking & Bell / DragonBoating are open to Young People attending Scouts (Age 10 upwards) in Southport District.
The evenings will start at 6pm PROMPT Doors open 5.50pm

'Scouts Secret Island Adventure' is an all-action game that showcases the best of Scouting skills and activities and will include mini games such as Kayaking, Hang Gliding and Mountain Boarding. Kayak Pool Sessions Available

Stuart Eley, one of the District Kayak Coaches has arranged a number of Indoor pool training sessions.
If there are any Scouts who undertook the One star award last year and would like to improve on their skills before the new season of Wet Nights start they are welcome to attend.(Please contact Stuart first)
The cost is £6.00 per session and numbers are limited to 12 places so will be on a first come first served basis.
The Venue is Tarleton High School and the dates and times are as below :-
