National Citizen Service at Waterside Lodge

Waterside Lodge (our District HQ) recently put in a successful bid to host twenty four 16 year olds for a residential week 16th to 20th July. These young people were taking part in a 4 week programme as part of the National Citizens Service, a Government backed scheme run in our area by the Sefton Volunteer Service. We were week two, they had already completed a residential at CHET, Crosby Hall Educational Trust. After the week residential with us they plan and complete a community project. They work in cohorts of 12. We actually hosted 2 groups of 9.

1st Southport Cubs Win Sports Day for 4th year in a row!

On Saturday 14th July Southport Cub Packs took part in the annual District Sports Day, which consisted of straight running races to the more fun events such as three legged, sack and backwards running races to field events such as throwing Cricket Balls etc. Huge congratulations to the 1st Southport for winning the overall competition for the 4th year in row, closely followed by the 19th Cub Pack and then the 48th in 3rd Place. A separate trophy was competed for in the 6 man relay race which the 19th and 1st Southport will be sharing this year as it was a dead heat!

District Cub Water Fun Day

Southport Cub packs recently spent a warm sunny day at Waterside Lodge enjoying their annual District Water Fun day. Because of the large numbers taking part they attended either a morning or afternoon session experiencing, Kayaking, Kata Canoes, Bell Boating and Sailing. Each session ended with all the various craft taking part in a massive water battle with the cubs armed to the teeth with Supersoakers.

Southport Scouts 1st & 2nd at County Camping Competition

Congratulations to the 48th Southport Scout Troop who came 1st place in this weekend's County Camping Competition at Tawd Vale and to the 1st Southport Lockhart Troop who came in 2 points behind them to clinch 2nd place.
Both teams were competing against other Troops from around Merseyside, who were in the County Competition because they had won their District versions of the event.
The troops were judged on their Camping skills which included preparing and cooking a meal (based on a theme) for the judges. Well Done to everyone!

Wingding County Cub Camp

Last weekend the 1st, 14th, 19th and 48th Southport Cub Packs joined 850 other Cubs from around Merseyside to take part in the bi-annual County Wingding Camp at Tawd Vale. They were joined on the Saturday by a few hundred more Beaver Scouts, again including Colonies from Southport. Despite torrential rain at times everyone had a brilliant time taking part in all the activities on offer including :- Go-karting, Falconry displays, climbing towers, zip lines , water zorbing, bell boating, Craft tents, helter skelter to name but a few.

District Cub Camp 2012

Southport District Cubs spent their Annual Camp at Bibby Farm for 3 nights over last weekend's extended Golden Jubilee Bank Holiday.The Leaders met on Friday 1st June to erect tents and get ready for the Cubs arriving between 7 and 8 p.m. Typically it was a blistering hot day!!! The Cubs arrived and got changed to make their name/group badges for the weekend.

Congratulations to Byron Chapman and Alex Rimmer, from the 62nd Scout Group, who attended the Mayor's Presentation recently and were given certificates for Outstanding Achievement in Volunteering.
Congratulations also go to Debbie Ward, Andrew Tinsley, Penny Rimmer, Sarah Harper, Catherine Dodd, Catherine Cooper, Martin Cooper, Diane Chapman, Graham Borwick, Ailsa Andrew and Chris Scott who also have certificates but couldn't make it to the ceremony.

New Kayak Coach For Southport District

Big congratulations go to Robbie Smith,Scout leader at the 62nd Scout Group, for achieving his goal in becoming a Kayak / Canoe Instructor.
During last week Robbie spent a hard week in Wales where he completed the British Canoe Union Level one coaching assessment and passed with flying colours.
We are happy to have him in the team, well done Robbie !!!
