Sep
01

A combined group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 14th St James Scout Group recently attended the Southport Flower Show to take part in Bellamys Budding Gardeners. They were given a small plot of land and 1 hour to transform it into a garden display. A number of plants and shrubs were given by the flower show organisers for them to use but they also managed to scrounge and borrow from various stall holders additional garden items to display. Paul Crone from Granada Reports was on hand to commentate on the event and also to attract the public’s attention to their efforts.

Explorer Scouts train to lead Expedition Camps

Aug
02

On the 25th – 27th July, Southport Explorers camped at Middlewood Scout camp near Worsley. A lovely site usually closed in the week. There were 2 teams camping, away from the leaders, as part of a test for them to receive their camp passports. Three were awarded passports following the camp and hope to go on to organise their own expedition camps quite soon. During the camp a visit to the local Bird Sanctuary brought the rare chance to meet up close and fly some birds of prey.

Scouts Experience White Water Kayaking

Jun

On Sunday 26th, Mike and myself took a group of six Scouts and one Leader out to Burrs Country park, near Bury, for their first taste of White Water Kayaking.
What a great day, the sun was shining, there was enough water to challenge the Scouts and lots of fun was had by all.
We managed two trips of the circular route with lots of playing at each rapid. Within the group everybody did really well and the confidence could be seen growing as the day passed.
