62nd Cub Scouts win the 'Double' at the Cub District Swimming Gala

Congratulations to the 62nd Scout Group whose Cubs achieved double wins in last Saturday's District Cub Swimming Gala which took place at Formby Pool. The team won the overall event as well as the Team relay Trophy.
Well done to the 19th Cub Pack who came 2nd overall and to the 1st Southport who came in 3rd.
The Gala consisted of straight races for the various age Groups along with 'Fun' type events such as lilo racing etc.

2 Star Kayaking Award Gained

Congratulations to Robbie Smith (Scout Leader at the 62nd Scout Group) who completed his 2 Star Canoe / Kayak award during a white water river trip at Burrs Country Park recently. Various Explorer Scouts also took part in the trip as part of their ongoing canoe training / experiences. Robbie had to show he could be rescued from a capsized position, by a fellow canoeist, without getting out of his boat. For more pictures log on to Southport District's Facebook page.

District Minibus 100 Club Winner & Race Night

As part of the ongoing efforts to raise money for a District Minibus, the First draw for the 100 Club was made on Wednesday 19th October and on Sunday night a Race Night was held. The first draw for the 100 Club took place at the 1st Southport’s Beaver Colony. One of the Beavers drew the number out witnessed by 2 of the Beaver Leaders with Norah Doherty (Mini Bus Support Team member) present. Congratulations to Ian Bench who won £67. The Race Night was a very enjoyable evening and the Mini Bus Support Team would like to say a big thank you to all those who attended.

19th Cub Pack Win District Indoor Competition

On Wednesday, 19th October at Waterside Lodge 9 teams came together to our annual District Cub Indoor Competition. This year the theme was a Trading Post. The teams started with a number of points and had to buy something from the Shop to make an item they had chosen from a list of challenges. The Judges decision on the items made was quite difficult at times – imagination had to be used quite extensively!! There were 15 Challenges, each listed with a number of points awarded on completion, with the winning team having the most points.

Beaver Scouts Meet Real Beaver at Martin Mere

Following on from the Southport District Beavers successful bag pack in July, where the Beavers raised £718.64 to help feed the beaver at Martin Mere for a year, those who supported it were recently invited to Martin Mere to present the cheque, go behind the scenes to see the Beaver and to take part in other activities.

District Beaver Sleepover

Over the weekend of 30th September/1st October 45 Beavers attended the District Sleepover held at Waterside Lodge over 2 days and nights. The theme was Sweden following on from the World Scout Jamboree. As well as activities based around Sweden we also tried Swedish Pancakes which for most of the beavers proved to be the highlight of the sleepover.

Southport Scouts Achieve 2nd Place in County Cooking Competition

Ten teams, representing various Scout Districts from around Merseyside, competed in the County Cooking Competition Finals at Tawd Vale this weekend.
Southport District were represented by the 1st Southport Lockhart and 55th Southport Scout Troops.
Congratulations to the 1st Southport who achieved 2nd Place, narrowly being beaten by a team from West Kirby.
These top two teams will go on to represent Merseyside in the Regional Finals.

1st Southport Lockhart win District Cooking Competition

Last Saturday was our Scout District Cooking Competition. Congratulations to the 1st Southport Lockhart Troop who won the competition and go through to represent Southport District in the County Finals. They will be joined by the 55th Scout Troop who came 2nd. The teams had to prepare a Fish meal after being taught how to gut and fillet the fish they were given.

14th Scout Group Garden for David Bellamy

A combined group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 14th St James Scout Group recently attended the Southport Flower Show to take part in Bellamys Budding Gardeners. They were given a small plot of land and 1 hour to transform it into a garden display. A number of plants and shrubs were given by the flower show organisers for them to use but they also managed to scrounge and borrow from various stall holders additional garden items to display. Paul Crone from Granada Reports was on hand to commentate on the event and also to attract the public’s attention to their efforts.
