58th Cubs Win the Cub District Indoor Competition 2016

Oct
14

Congratulations to the 58th Cub Pack who won our District Indoor Competition last Wednesday. The teams of 6 cubs had an hour to build the tallest free standing tower made out of drinking straws. The tower also had to support the weight of a Kinder Egg and the height was measured from the top of this. There were lots of interesting structures being built and things got quite tense in the last few minutes as some teams found they had gone a bit too high and their tower wouldn't stand up on its own.

White Water Kayaking

Sep
27

During this year’s District ‘Wet Nights’ season we were joined by a couple of leaders who are interested in kayaking and possibly joining our team of instructors. After 6 months of training on the Marine Lake we took them to their first white water experience at Burrs Country Park. This is a stretch of river that loops around a car park area, the top of which can be accessed by paddling along a small stretch of canal…and can be run two to three times depending on how long you want to ‘play’ in the various rapids.

It's that time of year again. This years 'Wet Night' season has come to an end. For the last 23 weeks over 40 Scouts from across Southport District have been attending sailing and kayaking sessions at Waterside Lodge. Last Wednesday we presented them with the various awards they had earned, ranging from RYA and BCU awards to various Scout badges. Well done to all the Scouts that have taken part and to all the instructors and background staff that have volunteered each week so our Scouts have the opportunity to do this. Looking forward to next April when we start the season again!
