Holy Trinity Abseil

Last Saturday Mark & Laura, from the 1st Southport, took on the challenge that was advertised in our District newsletter to abseil down 142 ft from the top of Holy Trinity Church Tower in Hoghton St to raise money for Christian Aid and their own Scout Group. It was a fantastic day and once the nerves had gone an enjoyable experience that they won't forget for a while!

Winner of County's 40th Anniversary Badge Competition

Huge Congratulations to Genevieve, from the 19th Scout Group, who has won the competition to design the badge that will commemorate 40 years of Scouting on Merseyside! She received a letter of congratulations over the weekend, along with an invitation to the County 40th Anniversary Service in Liverpool next weekend as guest of the County Commissioner. (NB Picture has been updated following the Service) The badge is currently being produced ready to go on the uniforms of all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders on Merseyside! Well done!

Wingding 2014 - Beaver Scout Visit

60 excited six to eight year olds and 12 tired adults could only mean one thing, another Beaver outing. This time it was for our biannual County day out (Wingding) at Tawd Vale. 4 Colonies met at Waterloo Road Recreation Ground, Waterloo Road, at 7.45 am, to catch the coach to Tawd Vale whilst one colony made its own way there.

58th Cubs win District Sports Day 2014

It was District Cub Sports Day on Saturday. Another fun filled event with the Sun shining on us. Congratulations to the 58th Cub Pack who won overall, closely followed by the 1st Panther Pack and the 61st. The 61st also won the separate Team Relay Trophy. A big thanks go out to Nathan (ADC Cubs) and his team of organisers / Judges for their hard work.

District Cub Dragonboat Competition 2014

It was Southport District's Annual Cub Dragonboat Racing Competition last night. 130 Cubs took part forming 8 teams of approx 18 cubs per boat. Each team had two timed races, one in each boat and against different teams. There were also 2 Network / Explorer scouts in each boat to help paddle the boats to the start and shout encouragement to the Cubs during each race. The team with the fastest combined times won the competition. The weather, which had threatened rain and gusts earlier in the week, turned warm and gave a gentle breeze to help push he boats along as they raced.

Nearly 90 Cubs and Leaders arrived to brilliant weather at Forest Camp in Cheshire last Friday. The weather was fantastic from start to finish and enabled us to have our meals outside, enjoy the activities and take home dry tents!

1st Southport Lockhart's win 'Shelter Box' Scavenger Hunt - Liverpool

Whilst the District Cooking competition was going on,1st Southport's Shackleton & Lockhart Scout Troops also entered teams in the North West Region 'Shelter Box' 'Scavenger Hunt which Lockhart Troop WON! The whole event was to raise awareness for ' Shelter Box' with teams of up to 6 Scouts going round Liverpool City Centre all day collecting clues and completing challenges. The winning team also featured on North West Tonight (See picture). Well done to Everyone!

District Scout Cooking Competition 2014

It was the District Scout Cooking competition this weekend which took place at the 19th's headquarters.The teams of Scouts were given mystery ingredients (including fish, which had to be gutted) and asked to create a meal. They also needed to build a fire and put up a shelter to cook under. Many congratulations to 1st Southport Lockhart Troop whose two teams came 1st and 2nd and to the 2nd Southport who were third. Well done to everyone that took part!

St.George's Day Parade - Windsor

Whilst the rest of Southport District were parading yesterday a few Scouter's from Merseyside County were invited to Scouting's special St.George's Day parade which takes place in Windsor Castle in the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent. Amongst these was Laura, one of the 1st Southport Leaders, who was there because she had been awarded the Chief Scout Commendation last year. During her time there she also got to meet our Chief Scout (Bear Grylls).
