St.George's Day Parade - Windsor

Whilst the rest of Southport District were parading yesterday a few Scouter's from Merseyside County were invited to Scouting's special St.George's Day parade which takes place in Windsor Castle in the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent. Amongst these was Laura, one of the 1st Southport Leaders, who was there because she had been awarded the Chief Scout Commendation last year. During her time there she also got to meet our Chief Scout (Bear Grylls).

St.George's Day Parade 2014

Well done to everyone who turned out for yesterday's St.Georges Day Parade. The weather remained good and everyone looked smart as they paraded along the new route to Holy Trinity Church. At the Church service, various awards were given out including Long Service and D of E Awards. James Hardman from the 2nd Southport Scouts won the Walter Broadbent Trophy and the 62nd Cub Pack won 'Pack of the Year' closely followed by the 48th pack in 2nd place and the 1st Southport Panther Cub Pack in 3rd.

62nd Cub Pack Win District Outdoor Competition

Congratulations to the 62nd Cub Pack who won yesterday morning's District Outdoor Competition. The Cub teams were tasked with building an oven and then preparing, cooking and decorating some cakes. These were then judged by Chris (DC) and Nathan (ADC Cubs).8 teams entered the competition and they were scored on their teamwork, the quality of their ovens produced, the tidiness of their work areas, the presentation and (although it was interesting for both Chris and Nathan!) the taste!

Southport Success at Great Escape Competition 2014

All 10 of Southport District's Scout Troops competed at this weekend's County 'Great Escape' Competition at Tawd Vale Campsite. Out of the 75 teams from around the County that entered; Southport District managed to win the best themed Patrol (2nd Southport Troop), the trophy for Best Patrol Spirit (1st Lockhart Troop) and 3rd Place overall went to 1st Southport Lockhart Troop.

Equinox Challenge - Delamere Forest 2014

A few Scout teams from Southport District competed against 400 other Scouts (forming approx 60 teams) from various other Districts at this weekends Equinox Challenge. Many Congratulations to 1st Southport Lockhart Troop who gained a fantastic 2nd Place! The Scouts were tasked with finding their way to various checkpoints around Delamere Forest, using compass bearings, whilst avoiding teams of older Explorer Scouts who were out hunting for them.Well done everyone!

District Cub Atkinson Sleepover

Around 140 of our District Cubs took part in a sleepover at the 'Atkinson' last weekend. They watched 'Night at the Museum' before eventually falling asleep on the Friday evening and then the next day took part in lots of activities including Backstage tours and performing songs on the stage. A brilliant time was had by all!

60 Beaver Scouts recently enjoyed a Fun Day at Waterside Lodge. The day was split into two halves with the 2nd, 19th and 62nd colonies attending the morning session and the 14th, 55th and 3 Beaver Scouts from the 62nd attending the afternoon session.

Our Scout leaders took part in a District Scout Leaders meeting with a difference recently. Every third meeting is going to be a taster session for a different activity that can hopefully be taken back to their Troops...this time round it was a Flight Simulator session...who said being a leader is all work and no play?

District Lord Derby Scout Competition 2014

First competition of the year, and what a day! The sun cracking the flags. District Lord Derby at Waterside Lodge. Scouts from 7 troops took part in bases which enable the scouts to do battle.

Bases consisted of bombs being transported, candle lighting pioneering style, first aid, fire lighting, chopping area, code breaking & a millionaire scout quiz.
All involved, Scout Leaders and Judges, said they enjoyed the event.

Operation Frostbite District Scout Patrol Leader Camp 2014

On the evening of Friday 24th January 23 Southport District Scouts arrived at Waterside Lodge International Airport for their flight to Adventure on the Operation Frostbite PL / APL Weekend Camp.The Scouts survived a plane crash, faced many challenges, swam across a freezing cold lake, built a cooking stove with the aircraft wreckage, gutted a fish, learned key first aid survival skills, built a bridge to cross a river, went rifle shooting, learnt key knots, cooked their food, made new friends and had a laugh.....oh and slept outside under the stars in freezing cold wet and windy conditions
