Great Escape Scout Competition 2015

This year's County 'Great Escape' Competition turned out to be one of the largest (75 teams entering) and wettest and muddiest. A number of our Scout Troops entered the competition being set challenges both physical (traversing rivers or raising flag poles on a raft in the middle of a flooded quarry) and skill based. They were also joined by some of our Explorer units who were there to help run bases or just enjoy the experience. Despite the weather everyone lad lots of fun.

58th Cub Pack Win the District Cub Competition 2015

On Saturday 21 March 60 Cub Scouts from across Southport invaded the Botanic Gardens to take part in the Annual Cub Scout Competition. This year the competition was in two parts the first being an observational quiz around the gardens which lasted an hour and consisted of some 15 questions and took in all corners of the park. The second part of the competition was back at the 62nd Headquarters were each team had to light a fire in a biscuit tin and boil enough water to make a cup of hot Chocolate for the judges to drink.

County Patrol Leader Day

Patrol Leaders from various Troops in our District attended a County PL day recently where they took part in various activities, some of which included ; Axe throwing, pitching tents blindfolded, eating bugs and lots more team based challenges....a great day was had by all.

County 'Speaking Up' Event

Some of the Scouts from 1st Southport Lockhart Troop attended the County Organised 'Speaking Up ' event in Liverpool this weekend. The young people discussed what they wanted to focus on before going to the Chambers to ask open questions to the Youth Commissioner, Lord Mayor of Liverpool and others similar. Some of the topics included environment, mental health, employment, tuition fees, Scout uniforms and how to improve the image scouting has.

District Chief Scout Awards Day

Following the recent County awards day some of our Beavers , Cubs and Scouts attended Southport Districts Chief Scout Awards Day this weekend. 41 of our Young People received Certificates for the awards they work on over a couple of years as they attend each Scouting age group. A huge Well Done to all of Southports Young People who have earned these awards this year and to all their leaders for working hard to give them the opportunities to complete them!

1st Southport Lockharts win the Triple Trophy

It was the District Scout Triple Trophy this weekend and as a change the activities the Scouts competed in were Model Making, Drawing and Photography.
Each scout competed individually in the sections and gained certificates if they won an activity and a trophy if they won the competition overall. Well done to Issy, from 1st Southport Lockhart troop who won the Photography section and the Triple Trophy overall.

62nd Cub Pack win Swimming Gala for 4th Year in a Row!

Huge Congratulations to the 62nd Cub Pack who won our District Swimming Gala on Saturday night for the 4th year in a row!
They were closely followed by 1st Southport Panther Pack who came 2nd and then 1st Southport Tiger Pack who came 3rd.
The gala was held at Formby Pool and was a mixture of straight races and fun type events.

District Cub Indoor Competition 2014

On Wednesday 22nd October Southport District Cubs held their annual Indoor Competition, this year it was a quiz. Nine Packs from the district took part with six Cubs in each team. Subjects ranged from Anagrams to Music and Entertainment to Super Heroes. This year the winners were the 58th Southport (pictured), in second place came the 1st Panthers and third place went to the 48th Southport. Four Cub leaders organised the event on behalf of the district, our thanks go to Byron, Carole, Claire and Helen, and the certificates were presented by the District Commissioner Chris Scott.

Southport District Success at the Feast of Lanterns Scout Camp

Various Troops from Southport had an enjoyable weekend at the County 'Feast of Lantern's' Camp at Tawd Vale Scout Campsite.
Each Troop that attends has to create a sculpture using lights and candles which are then judged in different categories.Well done to 'Spearhead' who achieved 3rd place in Explorer Scout category and to the 61st Scouts and 48th Scouts who achieved 2nd & 3rd Place in the Fantasia Category.
