Well done to Shackleton Troop who entered this years very wet and muddy Chariot Race Weekend at Bispham Hall. One of the only Southport Troops to enter they did us all proud with their A team achieving 4th place and their B team coming 22nd out of the 50 + teams that enter from various Counties! The A team were one of only two teams that didn't incur any penalty points over the two days of the competition! Well done everyone

World Jamboree Fundraising Reaches its Target!

Thanks to everyone that attended the Blind Wine tasting event this weekend that was to help raise funds for 4 of our District Scouts to go to the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015. The fantastic news is that it was such a success that the organisers has reached their target and now the Scouts are set for their once in a lifetime trip. Well done to the Scouts and their parents for all their hard work in organising the various fundraising events for this over the past year and to everyone that contributed!

District 'Wet' Night Awards

Last Wednesday was the last District Scout 'Wet' Night of the 2014 season.
Scouts from across the District have been Sailing and Kayaking each week since the Season started last April in the hope of achieving some Awards / qualifications at the end of it all. Wednesday saw the Scouts being presented with the certificates they earned, after which they tucked in to some food that was laid on for them. Big thanks go to all the water instructors who give up their time to make this happen, and will continue to next year.

Southport Beavers Water Fun Day

On a breezy Sunday morning and afternoon 47 Beaver Scouts from 4 colonies recently enjoyed a Water Fun Day at Waterside Lodge. The morning session was attended by the 48th and 55th colonies and the afternoon session was attended by the 14th and 62nd colonies.
During the day the beavers were given the opportunity to try bell boating, kata canoeing, archery and had a ride on a power boat on which they were taken to the island where they were allowed to explore and toast marshmallows.

County 40th Anniversary Service

Yesterday was Merseyside County's 40th Anniversary Service at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Pictured are some of 1st Southport's Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who attended this and they are standing alongside some of the banners each District were asked to make for the event. Southport Districts Banner is just to the right of our Scouts.

Holy Trinity Abseil

Last Saturday Mark & Laura, from the 1st Southport, took on the challenge that was advertised in our District newsletter to abseil down 142 ft from the top of Holy Trinity Church Tower in Hoghton St to raise money for Christian Aid and their own Scout Group. It was a fantastic day and once the nerves had gone an enjoyable experience that they won't forget for a while!

Winner of County's 40th Anniversary Badge Competition

Huge Congratulations to Genevieve, from the 19th Scout Group, who has won the competition to design the badge that will commemorate 40 years of Scouting on Merseyside! She received a letter of congratulations over the weekend, along with an invitation to the County 40th Anniversary Service in Liverpool next weekend as guest of the County Commissioner. (NB Picture has been updated following the Service) The badge is currently being produced ready to go on the uniforms of all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders on Merseyside! Well done!

Wingding 2014 - Beaver Scout Visit

60 excited six to eight year olds and 12 tired adults could only mean one thing, another Beaver outing. This time it was for our biannual County day out (Wingding) at Tawd Vale. 4 Colonies met at Waterloo Road Recreation Ground, Waterloo Road, at 7.45 am, to catch the coach to Tawd Vale whilst one colony made its own way there.

58th Cubs win District Sports Day 2014

It was District Cub Sports Day on Saturday. Another fun filled event with the Sun shining on us. Congratulations to the 58th Cub Pack who won overall, closely followed by the 1st Panther Pack and the 61st. The 61st also won the separate Team Relay Trophy. A big thanks go out to Nathan (ADC Cubs) and his team of organisers / Judges for their hard work.
